When you hear the word Facebook, you might think social media, social networking, the latest fad for chatting with friends, or that site your teenager is on all day. If you are a Lethbridge Business owner, you really should look at Facebook as a very effective local marketing tool.
Did you know?
- Facebook has more traffic than Google
- You can have a Facebook fan page
- You can run a Facebook contest
- You can manage a Facebook group
- You can create an official Facebook page that has its own URL
- You can enable Facebook comments on your website’s blog posts
- There are more than 500 Million facebook users
- If Facebook were a country, it would be the third largest by population in the world
- Of the 500 million Facebook users, 50% are on Facebook EVERY SINGLE DAY! (Now there’s a statistic to make your head spin)
Did you know?
- Facebook is introducing at least 4 new applications in 2011 (that I know of), including I-frames where you can embed your website and display it on your Facebook page?
- Facebook advertising delivers highly targeted traffic at a fraction of the cost per click of Adwords.
- With the proper SEO, your facebook page could actually outrank your site. (This needs to be done right; think ahead…)
- Your Lethbridge Marketing plan cannot afford to ignore the marketing power of Facebook.
It’s probably fair to say that most of us get on facebook to see our friends, send a message to family, look at pictures of people we know- and people we don’t know. My teenagers get on there and instant message friends, do quizzes, play games, etc.
Here’s a challenge for you. If you thought facebook was only about checking your wall, answering messages and checking up on your friends, then the next time you are on facebook I want you to snoop around. And I mean REALLY snoop around. Scan the whole page. See what all the options are. Click on something you’ve never clicked on before and see where it takes you.
And by that, I don’t mean to randomly click on the ads. That would be click fraud and we don’t do that.
What I do want you to do is scroll down to the very bottom of your Facebook page. Do you see this:
I want you to explore each one of these links and learn as much as you can.
Okay, I think I have given you enough to do today. Enjoy this little exercise and stay tuned for more from Lethbridge SEO
Actually, we’re not cheering our team on here. We are talking about the second largest search engine, named Yahoo!
Yahoo! was born in 1994 in a lowly trailer on the campus of Stanford University (hey, that’s where Google was born, too. Hmmm. Very interesting.) to proud parents David Filo and Jerry Yang.
These two young fellows were working hard on their PhD degrees, when they cooked up a categorized list to organize their favorite web links. This list began to grow children categories and grandparent categories and cousin categories…
Originally named “Jerry and David’s Guide to the World Wide Web”, the name was soon changed the the shorter and much more catchy “Yahoo!”
Before long, hundreds of people were accessing their guide, and in March 1995 the two incorporated their business and Yahoo! became official.
According to Yahoo Media Relations: “Today, Yahoo! Inc. is a leading global Internet communications, commerce and media company that offers a comprehensive branded network of services to more than 345 million individuals each month worldwide.”
It is pretty impressive when you think that Yahoo! was the first online navigation tool for the web. Even though Google facilitates the lion’s share of all searches, Yahoo! is the leader in some other areas, especially in the business arena. Yahoo! offers some services that Google does not, and Yahoo! should not be overlooked as a leader in the internet community.
Yahoo boast a network that spans 25 properties worldwide and is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California.
You can reach more of your audience by using Lethbridge SEO to give you a strong presence on the Yahoo! network.
Lethbridge SEO is your local leader for website optimization and internet marketing solutions.
SEO, as you probably know, is Search Engine Optimization. For every search you enter into Google, you are presented with a page of 10 possible results, called a SERP (Search Engine Results Page.) Google’s main goal in doing this is to present the searcher with the most relevant websites possible for those search words.
The way Google does this is by looking at many factors, including domain name, relevancy of content on the website, age of the domain, number and quality of back links, etc. Google uses an algorithm, or a complex mathematical formula, to weigh each criteria. This exact algorithm is a closely guarded Google secret, but marketers have been theorizing for years as to what components are in this algorithm. (Pigeon rank is a google joke, if you care to visit that link 🙂 )
Why is all of this important to know? For businesses in Lethbridge, SEO is exactly what will give your website an optimum place on Google’s first page. Did you know that most people (70%) click only on the first URL on the first page? This percentage drops dramatically as you go down the page, and if your business is on the second page then you are not receiving any of the free traffic available to websites occupying first page listings. This is bad news, because business runs on traffic. The more people visiting your website, the more potential clients you have. The more clients, the more profit your business can make for you.
Advertising mediums of the past have given way to the electronic age. More people search on google for goods or services they need than those that look in the yellow pages. You must have an online presence to survive, and much more than that- you must have a strong online presence to thrive. Lethbridge SEO can help you to achieve this.
Lethbridge SEO companies know the local economy and the issues that local businesses face. If you want to be the top-ranking business in your niche, you need the guidance that only a local Lethbridge SEO company can give you.
